NHTSA evaluates petition alleging Tesla robotaxis speed in school zones

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it is evaluating a petition's claim that Tesla Cybercab and Model Y vehicles using automated systems drive too fast in active school zones, according to documents posted to NHTSA's website, Bloomberg reported. The preliminary probe covers an estimated 1,000 vehicles from the 2026 model year, and the agency has not yet decided whether to grant or deny the petitioner's request for a full investigation.

DeepSeek agrees to lead seed round for ex-Tencent scientist's robot AI startup Winverse AI, Bloomberg reports

DeepSeek has agreed to lead a seed financing round amounting to tens of millions of dollars for Winverse AI, a months-old stealth startup building AI for robots founded by a former top Tencent scientist, according to people familiar with the matter. Other investors including Meituan's Long-Z Investments have committed, valuing the firm at about $400 million after the investment; DeepSeek is deploying capital from its own $12 billion-plus financing. The transaction hasn't been finalized and details such as valuation and investor participation could change, the people said.

Anthropic signed a multi-year AI cloud deal with IREN, The Information reports; neither company has confirmed

IREN shares rose 5.5% in pre-open trading after The Information reported that Anthropic has signed a multi-year AI cloud services deal with IREN, identifying Anthropic as the unnamed "leading frontier AI lab" IREN co-CEO Daniel Roberts referenced on the company's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call in August 2026. According to the report, the agreement gives Anthropic access to large GPU clusters with more flexibility and at lower cost than relying solely on hyperscale public cloud providers. Neither company has officially confirmed the partnership, and financial terms and start date were not disclosed.
