The FY2026 10-K frames a 'rapidly evolving and highly competitive' database market where the principal rivals — 'legacy database providers and large cloud providers' — hold explicit advantages: 'longer operating histories, more established relationships … significantly greater financial, technical, marketing or other resources … broader global distribution,' and can offer competing products 'at a low cost or no cost.' A developer-mindshare and switching-cost position is defensible but not wide against that field.

Cipher (renamed Cipher Digital Inc. on 20 February 2026) holds signed, credit-supported leases but has not yet shown that they amount to a durable advantage. Its 2025 Form 10-K (filed 2026-02-24) says "Through the end of 2025, our revenue has been derived from mining bitcoin". Its Q2 2026 business update (2026-08-04, Exhibit 99.1, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1819989/000181998926000038/q226_earningsxprxdraftxvf.htm) reported "Q2 2026 Revenue of $25 million", and its first HPC rent began only in August 2026 at Black Pearl. The 10-K's own risk factors describe a contested market. They say "There has been an increasing number of businesses constructing HPC data centers, which has resulted in increasing competition and pricing pressure that may cause us to reduce our pricing in order to remain competitive", that "our data centers are single-tenant properties", and that lessees "will have the right to terminate the lease if there are significant delays in the completion of construction". At Barber Lake, where the 10-K targeted Phase I delivery "by September 30, 2026", a September 2026 amendment, made "In connection with change orders and the continued evolution of tenant requirements", moved data-hall deliveries to the fourth quarter of 2026 through the first quarter of 2027. Under it, Cipher "will bear the first $359.3 million of costs in excess of the initial budgeted amount" (2026-09-25). There is real counter-evidence: a 15-year Amazon lease, a Google-backstopped Fluidstack lease whose contracted life a "leading AI lab" extended to 20 years, and a third lease with an investment-grade hyperscale tenant. Until that capacity is delivered and paying rent, though, a moat is not shown, so the band is none.

narrow

Camtek holds a strong position in the AI-driven niche of advanced-packaging inspection, but the evidence for a durable lead is mostly its own. Its August 2026 investor presentation (https://cdn.camtek.com/wp-content/uploads/IR-Presentation_Aug26.pdf) calls it the 'Market leader in Metrology and Inspection for Advanced Packaging' and says 'Most of the wafers used for HPC are measured and inspected on Camtek tools'. On the Q3 2025 call (2025-11-10) the COO said 'We are tool of record for all the 3D metrology for HBM4 at all the HBM manufacturers'. The one independent ranking found, The Information Network's post on SemiWiki, also calls Camtek 'the leader in inspection and metrology in advanced packaging', but it dates from February 2021. Margins are solid rather than exceptional: GAAP gross margin was 50.5% in 2025 and 48.9% in 2024 (Q4 2025 release), after 46.80% in 2023 (August 2026 presentation). The 2025 20-F (filed 2026-03-19) warns of 'significant global market participants, some with greater resources than us', and of local competitors that 'target the low-end market and may offer products at lower prices'. Onto Innovation's 10-K names KLA and Camtek as its principal advanced-packaging inspection competitors. China was the largest region at 243,935 of 496,072 (US$ thousands) of 2025 revenue. A real but contestable position, so narrow.

Moat type switching costs

A database is the system an application is built on: the 10-K states 'a database directly impacts an application's performance, scalability, flexibility and reliability,' and Atlas is 'our managed multi-cloud database-as-a-service' running the customer's live workloads — re-platforming a database is a rewrite, not a swap.

source: sec.gov

none

No moat source is demonstrated yet. Switching costs are the most likely candidate, since the leases are long (15 years at Black Pearl; Barber Lake now a 20-year contracted life) and each site has a single tenant. But the 10-K says tenant guarantees "will only be effective after rent commencement under such leases and are subject to certain limitations", and by August 2026 rent had begun at only one site. The advantages the 10-K claims are the company's own. It speaks of "industry-leading expertise in originating and securing industrial-scale, greenfield data center sites" and of securing West Texas land "on more favorable terms than in more established data center markets". The same document says "there is significant competition for power capacity and energized facilities". Intellectual property is modest: "four granted United States patents and one issued patent in Taiwan". With 66 full-time employees, Cipher has no scale advantage over the competitors it names: CoreWeave, Digital Realty, Equinix, Vantage Data Centers and Aligned Data Centers.

intangibles ip

The 20-F attributes the advantage to engineering capability: 'We believe that a significant part of our competitive advantage derives from our R&D innovative capabilities which enable us to adapt our technologies to evolving market needs and customers' requirements.' Its systems 'incorporate proprietary advanced image processing software and algorithms, as well as advanced electro-optics and precision mechanics', and it relies on 'patents, copyrights, trade secrets, trademarks, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements'. The new platforms carry that forward: the 20-F says the Hawk detects '150 nanometer defects size' and measures '500 million micro bumps at pitches less than 12 micron'. Tool-of-record status adds switching friction, per the COO's HBM4 remark on the Q3 2025 call. But the 20-F also says 'it may be possible for a third party, including a competitor, to copy or otherwise obtain and use our products or technologies without authorization or to develop similar technologies independently'.

Leadership co leader

The 10-K positions MongoDB as the leading document database by developer mindshare but names 'legacy database providers and large cloud providers' as better-resourced rivals across the broader database market — a category leader within a market it does not lead overall.

source: sec.gov

fast follower

No independent share or rank was found. The 10-K names CoreWeave, Digital Realty, Equinix, Vantage Data Centers and Aligned Data Centers as competitors, along with miners that have "signed leases with hyperscalers and HPC tenants": Hut 8, IREN, TeraWulf, Core Scientific and Applied Digital. Cipher has signed hyperscale-grade tenants (Amazon; Fluidstack with a Google backstop; a third investment-grade hyperscaler) but delivered its first HPC capacity only in August 2026 (Q2 2026 update). That makes it a fast follower. Its self-description as "a leading developer, owner, and operator of industrial-scale data centers" is the company's own claim and is not counted.

co leader

Camtek calls itself the 'Market leader in Metrology and Inspection for Advanced Packaging', and on the Q3 2025 call (https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/camtek-camt-q3-2025-earnings-165201423.html) the CEO said its tools 'are the tools of reference for 3D metrology steps for HBM4 at all the HBM players'. The only independent support found is older: The Information Network's 2021 SemiWiki post (https://semiwiki.com/forum/threads/kla-still-top-of-semiconductor-metrology-inspection-but-smaller-competitors-gain-share-in-2020.13803/latest) calls Camtek 'the leader in inspection and metrology in advanced packaging', in a market where 'KLA is the dominant metrology/inspection market leader with a share of more than 50% in 2020' overall. KLA and Onto Innovation both compete for the same advanced-packaging inspection steps, per Onto's 10-K, and Nova's 20-F says its Sentronics acquisition puts it in 'direct competition' with Camtek. With no current independent share data, the band is held at co_leader.

Pricing power moderate

Owning the IP and the roadmap ('the determination of which features are included in our free or paid offerings') gives real list-price control, but the same filing flags competitors offering database products 'at a low cost or no cost basis,' which caps it.

source: sec.gov

weak

The 10-K says competition "has resulted in increasing competition and pricing pressure that may cause us to reduce our pricing in order to remain competitive". It adds that if customers cut usage "we may be compelled to lower our prices or risk losing a significant customer". At Barber Lake, Cipher agreed to absorb "the first $359.3 million of costs in excess of the initial budgeted amount", with the tenant reimbursing "50% of any such costs above that amount" (2026-09-25, Exhibit 99.1, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1819989/000181998926000043/barberlakeleaseamendmentpr.htm). Its one input-cost edge is specific to mining: Odessa's power costs about 2.8 c/kWh under the Luminant contract, available "until at least July 2027". A landlord that concedes cost overruns to its tenants has weak pricing power.

source: sec.gov

moderate

GAAP gross margin was 47.00% in 2020, 50.90% in 2021, 49.80% in 2022, 46.80% in 2023 and 48.90% in 2024 (August 2026 presentation, https://cdn.camtek.com/wp-content/uploads/IR-Presentation_Aug26.pdf), then 50.5% in 2025 (Q4 2025 release, https://www.camtek.com/news-and-events/camtek-announces-record-results-for-the-fourth-quarter-full-year-2025/) and 50.1% in Q2 2026. On the Q3 2025 call the CFO said gross margin 'should gradually improve' as the Hawk and the Gen 5, 'which have higher gross margin', ship. The same presentation's target model sets a 54-55% gross-margin target at $750 million of revenue. The 20-F warns that competition 'could result in lower prices for our products and a corresponding reduction in our gross margin'.

Summary

MongoDB monetizes developer mindshare that began as open source: the 10-K notes 'we own the intellectual property of our offerings since we are the creators of the software,' which lets it run a 'proprietary software subscription business model' and control the roadmap. The durable asset is the document-model install base and Atlas's managed multi-cloud workloads, positioned for AI as 'the underlying database … capable of processing queries against rich and complex data structures.' The counterweight, in the filing's own words, is that the large cloud providers it depends on for Atlas hosting are also its best-resourced competitors.

Cipher built bitcoin mining data centres in Texas and is now developing single-tenant AI and HPC campuses for lease to hyperscalers. Its 10-K reports a portfolio of "4.2 gigawatts ("GW") of capacity across 10 sites". It lists a 15-year Amazon Web Services lease for about 300 MW of turnkey capacity at Black Pearl and a Fluidstack lease at Barber Lake (300 MW gross) under which Google "has agreed to backstop certain obligations of Fluidstack". It describes bitcoin mining at Odessa on a Luminant power contract at about 2.8 c/kWh. In 2026 it signed a third campus lease "with an investment-grade Hyperscale tenant" (Q1 2026 update, 2026-05-05), delivered first Black Pearl capacity in August "two months ahead of the original schedule" with rent commenced, and fully funded its Stingray development with a bond (Q2 2026 update). On 2026-09-25 it said Barber Lake's contracted life was extended from 10 to 20 years, taking contracted revenue at the site "from $3.8 billion to over $9 billion". The 10-K says Odessa was "the first bitcoin mining data center awarded the Management and Operations, or M&O, Stamp of Approval award from the Uptime Institute", which is independent recognition of how the company operates. Against this, the latest quarter's revenue was still bitcoin mining and fell to $25 million. The 10-K describes growing "competition and pricing pressure", single-tenant concentration, and termination rights for construction delays. The Barber Lake schedule was reset, and Cipher absorbs the first $359.3 million of cost overruns. Cipher's contracted pipeline is substantial, but a competitive advantage is not yet demonstrated, so it is rated as having no moat. That could change to narrow once its leased campuses are delivered and paying rent.

Camtek, based in Israel, makes optical inspection and metrology systems that check wafers from the back end of the front-end line through bump formation to post-dicing. Its current platforms are the Eagle family (including the Eagle G5, launched September 2024), the Hawk (launched February 2025 for chiplets, HBM and hybrid bonding), FRT's MicroProf metrology tools (acquired November 2023) and the Golden Eagle for panel-level packaging. The August 2026 presentation says advanced packaging is about 75% of revenue, HPC and AI about 55% and non-AI advanced packaging about 20%. The remaining 25% covers general 2D, photonics, power devices, CIS and front-end, and Eagle gen5 and Hawk 'are expected to account for 50% of 2026 revenue'. 2025 revenue was a record $496.1 million, up 16%, and Q2 2026 a record $133.2 million. The CEO said orders since the start of 2026 total 'more than $600 million', with deliveries 'throughout the remainder of 2026 and into 2027'. The 20-F says Camtek's systems 'are being used by the largest CIS manufacturers' and that it has 'widened its presence' in front-end back-end-of-line inspection. The exposures are China (the largest region in 2025), customer concentration (three customers took 15%, 10% and 10% of 2024 revenue, one took 11% in 2025), better-resourced rivals and low-priced local competitors, and a past patent claim by 'one of our competitors in the field of semiconductor wafer inspection equipment'.

Chain position

Layer-10 application-layer data platform — the operational database under AI and general software workloads.

Cipher develops single-tenant, powered data-centre campuses for hyperscale and AI tenants: Amazon at Black Pearl, Fluidstack (backstopped by Google) at Barber Lake, and an unnamed investment-grade hyperscaler at a third campus. Meanwhile it winds down bitcoin mining.

Mid-end and back-end equipment supplier to OSATs, IDMs and wafer-level-packaging subcontractors, with most of its business in advanced packaging for HPC, HBM and chiplets.
