Duke Energy settlement with Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft sets upfront-payment rules for NC data centers

Duke Energy's two North Carolina utilities reached a settlement with the North Carolina Public Staff, with Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft among the other parties, requiring large-load customers of 50 megawatts or more with 80% load factor to make nonrefundable upfront payments for grid facilities serving only them. The agreement is subject to approval by the North Carolina Utilities Commission.

NVIDIA and Microsoft open preorders for RTX Spark Windows laptops

At a Microsoft event in San Francisco, NVIDIA said RTX Spark laptop preorders opened, with availability on October 16, and that RTX Spark delivers one petaflop of FP4 AI performance with up to 128GB unified memory; Microsoft said it built its Surface Laptop Ultra around RTX Spark. Microsoft also announced general availability of Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC) for running agents on Windows, and systems are coming from makers including ASUS, Dell, Lenovo and Gigabyte.

Musk says Grok Bot will route requests across models including Anthropic's Claude

Pfizer said the FDA approved Tukysa (tucatinib) with trastuzumab and pertuzumab for maintenance treatment of adults with unresectable locally advanced or metastatic HER2+ breast cancer following induction treatment, expanding its use to the front-line setting. In the Phase 3 HER2CLIMB-05 trial, median investigator-assessed progression-free survival was 24.9 months versus 16.3 months in the placebo arm (hazard ratio 0.64).
